Alexandra Wood - Violin

Described in The Strad magazine as “a talent to watch”, Alexandra Wood has already undertaken a series of highly acclained engagements.  She has given recitals at various international festivals including Brighton, Bath, Harrogate, Cheltenham, Huddersfield and Edinburght, as well as appearing in London’s Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room and in the Pre-Prom Series 2003.Alexandra graduated with First Class Honours with distinction from Selwyn College, Cambridge, before going on to the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied with Itzhak Rashkovsky and was awarded the Worshipful Company of Musicians Medal and the Mills Williams and Phoebe Benham Junior Fellowships.Alexandra has become one of the first British violinists to win major prizes at prestigious international violin competitions, in cluding the Wieniawski, Tibor Varga, Yampolosky and Rodolfo Lipizer competitions.  She has appeared as soloists with various orchestras, including the Philharmonia, City of London Sinfonia and the Orchestra of St John’s Smith Square and has worked with conductors including Richard Hickox and Sir Roger Norrington.  Future plans include her debut CD with Usk Recordings Ltd.Alexandra plays a violin made by Nicolo Gagliano in 1767,  This instrument was purchased with generous assistance from the Countess of Munster Trust, Abbado Trust, Loan Fund for Musical Instruments and St James’ Place Partnership.
